What size options are available for wayfinding signs?

Wayfinding signs are available in various sizes to accommodate different environments and viewing distances. Large overhead signs provide excellent visibility from a distance, for example, to help customers spot a particular aisle in a supermarket.

Smaller wall-mounted or projecting signs are suitable for close-up viewing, for instance, to identify individual rooms in schools, hospitals or offices. The size chosen should ensure optimum legibility based on the intended viewing distance, while considering factors such as the available space, lighting conditions and compliance with disability laws.

Can I request a custom size for my wayfinding sign?

What are the legal requirements for wayfinding signage?

Wayfinding signage should be easy to read from an appropriate distance according to its intended function and audience. However, where fire safety is concerned, directional or informational signage must comply with legal requirements to ensure that occupants of the building and Fire and Rescue Service personnel can read them quickly.

According to Building Regulations Approved Document B (Fire Safety), for example, the text on directional signage in high-rise buildings must be at least 50mm in height in a sans serif typeface.
